Brandon Marshall to the Dolphins, Tedd Ginn Jr. drops whatever is in his hands

Hooooh boy.... FINALLY some great news out of Dolphins camp! Yeah I was happy to hear that we signed Karlos Dansby back on March 5, but that was back on March 5! I was beginning to wonder what else we were going to do to improve, and my 'Fins did not disappoint!

Ask any Dolphins fan what our #1 concern is this off-season and you will get the same answer: "We need a (expletive) receiver that can do something!"

Mention Tedd Ginn, Jr. and it could get physical.

"Oh sh*t, that thing
almost HIT me!"

So now we have our receiver, and yes- on the surface he comes with some baggage. But really, if Bill Parcells thinks he's worth the trouble, who can really say any different? Tuna errs WAY on the side of caution when it comes to these things, so I see this as a great sign. Some guys just need a clean slate with a new team, and Mr. Marshall, we are thrilled to provide that for you!

So what now? Well now Brandon Marshall gives Chad Henne a chance to shine, that's what! Henne is more talented than Marshall's last quarterback and he has a strong arm. You know what goes great with that? A big, strong receiver who can make some things happen after he catches the ball.

(Did you hear that Ginn?! After he CATCHES the !@%$#%@ ball!)

Plus, having a true number-one receiver will allow Devon Bess to be a true number-two receiver; if Brian Hartline can continue to develop like he's expected to we go from having a piss-poor receiving corpse to actually having a descent-to-above-average one.

"You hear that?!
Decent-to-above-average!"

Let's not forget the one thing Dolfans have actually been able to enjoy the last few years- the running game. Ronnie Brown is great (when he stays healthy), and Ricky Williams is a cyborg. Plus, Patrick Cobbs just completes it PERFECTLY. Also note- I DO NOT think the Wildcat has run its course. I think we shelved it last year because of all the injuries, and I think it will be back with a vengeance. Now we give these guys some receivers to keep opposing defenses honest, and they can REALLY wreak havoc! I think this is going to be a mutually beneficial relationship between the Miami running and passing attacks.

Also, let's not underestimate the value of addition by subtraction. Bill Parcells sure does have a knack for maximizing what he gets from players and then throwing them out with the trash. Joey Porter is a perfect example of the aforementioned trash. Bring him in, get 17.5 sacks out him, keep him for another year and use him to motivate the guys you actually plan on keeping, then just slide him right out of town just as people starting asking "hey, isn't it about time for Joey to get arrested for DUI/resisting arrest/assault on a police officer?"... brilliant!

Addition by subtraction is great, but subtraction by subtraction sucks. Jason Taylor was once a great example of the former, but now he's in danger of being a painful example of the latter. Yes, it was great the way Parcells sniffed out his one (1) bad year and shipped him off to Washington, only to get him back at wholesale when he was "all better". But now he's back to form, and our defense CANNOT afford to lose it's anchor; especially at a time that it seems to be coming together nicely. Losing him to the.... oh God I can't say it....

... anyway, losing him to them would be the most demoralizing thing possible. I'm fairly certain all this "Dirty Sanchez" talk is just posturing on JT's part until the Dolphins get his deal done, but FOR THE LOVE OF GOD just get his freakin' deal done already!

Here's lookin' forward to Football!

Pseudo-Biography and a Username Origin

It's really just the "About Me" section that you see to the right:

Hi, I'm NiceGuyJon and I am a 28-year-old underachiever who is finally finishing school to have a fulfilling career. I've done many different things to earn a living, and have enjoyed many of them, but I'm excited to get on with the next part of my life and look forward to doing something a bit more stable that I always knew I wanted to do but couldn't muster up the motivation to put in the work involved. Mind you, I've said all this before, so what makes this different than all of the other times? I guess I will just have to wait and see :)

And that segues nicely into an explanation of my username, NiceGuyJon. The fact is that my first name is not Jon at all. And while I am a nice enough guy, I'm not SO nice that anyone would ever go out of their way to give me a nickname like "Nice Guy"; and I am also not in any way mean enough that someone would give me that name to be ironic like when you call a huge person "tiny" (Florida hillbillies, I'm looking in your direction).

My friends call me Tiny, and they also
say I'm pleasant to look at.

Anyway, I started going online back when it was first available to computer-illiterate people and we were all TERRIFIED of it. The extent of our computer knowledge was what we learned in "Terminator", and of course us not being computer nerds meant we had lives and thus we'd all seen it. We fully understood that we were ushering in the Uprising, but there was a possibility for pornography so of course we had to at least see what it was all about. If you were an adolescent like myself, you learned to appreciate a poorly scanned picture of a woman's forehead, since that was all that had loaded by the time... well, you know. And of course, you paid by the minute for that bit of self-humiliation.

All that being the case, it was easy to see why you sure as HELL weren't putting your real name anywhere near that thing. So one day I watch "Reservoir Dogs"- probably for the 20th or 30th time- and I remember a website a buddy told me about, IMDb.com. So I go on the website and see that you have to join in order to chat. No problem, so I go to sign up and I need a username. Well, I had just seen "Reservoir Dogs" and I always liked Chris Penn's (RIP) character, Nice-Guy Eddie. So I take the "Nice Guy" part, throw on a clever fake name like "Jon" (creative!) and there you have it- NiceGuyJon. Now the only thing it does for me is make my friends that know me in real life ask me "dude, why the hell do you call yourself 'NiceGuyJon' online?"

I usually just make something up.

A Mile Wide and a Foot Deep

The whole reason I ever had the idea to start a blog was because I feel like I have so much going on in my head at once that I feel like I need to document it so that I can finally let it go. Maybe that's weird, but maybe you're weird!

So being the way I am cognitively, I always seem to have something to say on a seemingly infinite number of topics. They can range from the highly intellectual to the blatantly absurd and can sometimes blend into some kind of "intellectual-absurdity" hybrid. Basically, I'm interested in everything I've ever thought about; well, anything I've ever put some thought into anyway.

So employing the new "go get 'em" attitude I've tried so hard to buy-in to (still waiting for it to become habit), I went and did a little research on how to make a "good" blog since I want this to last. Pretty much across the board, the first step seems to be to "find a niche" to write about.

So what's my niche? What is it that I want my blog to be "about"? Something tells me that filling the "funny, witty, intelligent-but-admittedly-underachieving, not-liking-to-shave, pro-wrestling-watching, football-withdrawal-experiencing, Go-Dolphins!-ing, going-back-to-school-for-the-third-time-but-I'm-serious-about-finishing-this-time" niche might be a little too narrow. The fact is that because my interests go in all directions, my blog would likely go in all directions. Otherwise, it would defeat the purpose of my starting this blog in the first place! So, taking part of what one of my favorite professors at a community college in Pennsylvania once said, this blog will be "a mile wide and a foot deep".

So let's see where this goes!

How long will this blog last?

It's a valid question... with how busy I am these days and my (shaky) record following through, one has to wonder! That being said, I think I've hit my stride now. These days I'm pretty productive and I really have a great chance at finishing school this time! Too bad I didn't start one back when I was lazy with a ton of time on my hands; who knows what could have been!

Anyways, I'm going to try really hard to keep this going, since I need to do SOMETHING with all of these thoughts that are floating around this noggin of mine. I figure if I just sit down and post whatever's on my mind in a given moment, it will be a great release for me!

These days the only thing on my mind has been school, but (mercifully) that will end in the next week or so (albeit temporarily). Not because I'm quitting school again, but because it's about to be summer time! If I'm going to be a school teacher, I'd better start trying to get used to the idea of being forced to enjoy my summers! Well that's about all I have for now. I probably should have started with a self-introductory blog, but it is what it is. That will probably be next, I guess.

See, I'm already being rebellious and non-comforming!
